OUR
PASTOR - RANDALL WADE MURPHY
Pastor
Randall Wade Murphy, the sixth of eight children, grew up in the heart
of the 3rd Ward (an under-privileged area of Houston, Texas). Pastor
Murphy gave his life to Christ on October 10, 1977, and has been
diligently working ever since to build up the Kingdom of God on earth.
Pastor Murphy believes in compassion and lives compassionately.
Pastor Murphy teaches faith and his entire ministry has been one of
"Stepping Out On Faith." More than anything else, Pastor Murphy
believes in demonstrating genuine love because God is love (I John
4:8). He goes far beyond the call of duty of any of his titles without
ulterior motives.
Pastor Murphy received a B.A. degree in Telecommunications from Texas
Southern University, an M.A. degree in Counseling Psychology from
Atlanta University, and an M.Div. degree from Interdenominational
Theological Center. He is currently a doctoral student
concentrating in Counseling Psychology at Argosy University.
After the completion of his doctoral studies, Pastor Murphy plans to
open a community counseling center in his church for people who need
psychotherapy and cannot afford it.
Pastor Murphy’s professional development includes becoming a
minister and a college professor. He believes that his calling is
to instruct, motivate, encourage, and challenge people from all walks
of life. The Lord has blessed Pastor Murphy by allowing him to do
this in many venues including psychiatric settings, college
administration, and college instruction.
In 1989, Pastor Murphy was appointed to revitalize and revive the
Charles Harrison Mason Bible College in Houston. He met the challenge
and served as the College’s Administrative Dean from April 1989
through July 1996.
On September 16, 1996, Pastor Murphy opened the doors of the New
Jerusalem Church of God in Christ. His philosophical approach to
ministry comes from the greatest teacher and philosopher that he has
ever studied — Jesus Christ. Pastor Murphy believes
everyone who is a part of the New Jerusalem ministry should become
actively involved in the day-to-day workings of the ministry. His
approach is taken from a phrase from the Word of God: "... occupy till
I come." Pastor Murphy believes that a major portion of the deliverance
of God's people is staying busy and staying on fire for God. He
believes that our personal self esteem, our financial prosperity, and
our optimistic outlook on life all depend on our intense relationship
with God. That relationship can and will be enhanced through diligently
working all the days of our lives.
He has worked fervently to make a difference on this earth. He
counsels, encourages, and motivates teens, the homeless, church
members, as well as the general public to reach their highest
potential and accomplish their personal goals. In 1999, Pastor
Murphy founded the "Leaning Post," an organization geared toward
rehabilitating substance abusers, sheltering and feeding the homeless,
and providing spiritual counseling and training to those in need to
equip them with skills to return to a functioning level in society. In
January 2011, Pastor Murphy established two major community initiatives
through the Lord’s ministry – “The Success Clinic for
Youth” and the “The Cultural Arts Development
Program.” Both programs are designed to help people enrich their
lives and develop to their fullest potential.
He looks well into the future for the congregation at New Jerusalem. He
emphasizes that one can be secure with his or her fate or destiny if
God remains preeminent in all decisions and plans in one’s life.
He firmly believes that if one believes in God, one should, with
enthusiasm, TRUST GOD.
